Here are some things that have happened with athletes recently:

Vontae Davis passed away

Vernon was an NFL star who played for the Miami Dolphins. He retired in 2018. He played in the NFL for 10 years. He was one of the best in the NFL being a Pro Bowl player. He retired at half time during a game saying he had a spiritual moment and realized he wanted to move on to the next chapter immediately from football. Vontae will be missed.

Shohei Ohtani gambling scandal

Japanese Major League Baseball player Shohei Ohtani had an interpreter, Mizuhara, who took advantage of him. He was betting on sports illegally and got Ohtani’s bank accounts in the mix of it. Mizuhara is no longer the interpreter, it’s now Will Ireton.

Women’s basketball is setting records for viewership

The Iowa-UConn Final Four women’s basketball game peaked at 17 million viewers. This makes a new record for the most-watched women’s basketball game. It also tops World Series games and NBA Finals games last year and other impressive events. With Caitlin Clark leading the undefeated Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team this season, women’s sports is growing.

Kansas City Chiefs sign international rugby player Louis Rees-Zammit

The NFL has an International Player Pathway (IPP) program for athletes around the world to have the opportunity to play for a team in the States. Rugby standout Rees-Zammit is athletic enough to be able to try the new sport of American Football with an impressive $66 million contract. Not a bad deal to start a new sport! When you’re athletic and doing a sport that is arguably similar to what you’re going into, things work out. This sounds like something to bring in viewership from England to support the Chiefs. I’m a Chiefs fan so I think this is a great move. Go Chiefs!
